Splurge vs. Save: Sequined Lips Anyone?

One of the biggest trends that were fashion week goers were wearing as their staples all through out fashion month was the graphic pullover.  Everything from faux fashion logos to kitschy prints.  One designer in particular is renowned for his humorously innovative and often surreal use of print, embroidery and graphic embellishment.  Markus Lupfer, has developed a huge cult following because of his witty humor and his ability to convey this all through the use of sequins.

Forever21 has obviously drawn inspiration from Markus Lupfer’s Sequin Lips.  So what do you think, Splurge vs Save?

Splurge vs. Save: Pashli Face-Off!

In case you’ve been in deep seclusion with no access to TV, interwebs or the world then here’s the big news: the long awaited designer collaboration of 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target has officially launched.  Naturally folks were camped out on their computers, mobiles, tablets or even at their local Target location in anticipation to be the first to shop the collection.  Apparently Target learned a thing or two over their last few designer collaborations (i.e. the Missoni Pandemic of 2011) by ensuring that they had plenty of stock of each item.  In other words, it’s still not too late to snag you a piece from this collaboration.

In reviewing the entire collection two thoughts crossed my mind, 1. Why weren’t there any footwear pieces included for Women in the collection and 2. The Mini Satchel is the Pashli Mini’s doppleganger.  While the accent details and obviously the fabrication of the bags are night and day-Pashli is made from cowhide leather and it’s doppleganger is made of Polyurethane- it’s hard not to notice the striking resemblance that they share in silhouette and shape.

Splurge vs. Save: Studded Pointy Flats!

With Fall right around the corner it’s time to start prepping for the change in season and most importantly figure out what trends are worth taking a leap into or just dipping your toes in.  One of the biggest trends for Fall is, “Punk Rock”.

Valentino offers up the perfect mix of translating this fall trend in the ultimate fashion package with their stunning studded pointed leather flats.  This classic shape is given punk rock flair with the studs but is done so in a way that allows you the wearer to have the versatility to add a little interest to a polished ensemble or the perfect amount of spice to a rocker chic outfit.  Following this same fall trend Zara offers up their version of a studded pointy flat that packs the same amount of fashion punch.

Splurge vs. Save: Mirrored Sunnies!

This summer the hottest eyewear trend for sunnies are mirrored lenses.  The mirrored sunnies have made it into their 3rd consecutive year of relevance which makes me now take notice of whether or not this should be characterized as a new staple or keep it in the trend category.  While I absolutely love this modern new update I myself am still hesitant on committing to the mirrored sunnies movement.

Splurge vs. Save: Mandal inspired sandals!

So yesterday I talked about mandals, Birks and Tevas have officially arrived thanks to the forward thinking Phoebe Philo.  To help you take a small test dip in the pool of this ugly chic trend I’ve picked out 2 “mandal friendly” choices to help ease you into this trend.

If you are feeling really bold and in the end after rockin’ these Teva inspired sandals you discover that you absolutely love and want nothing more than to strut your fashion swagger in these you can extend your love affair by upping the fashion forward ante and pair your new mandals with socks.

Splurge vs. Save: See through clutch!

Shourouk nails fashion’s see-through accessories trend with this compact PVC clutch, embellished with a rainbow of clear and painted crystals.  It’s honestly the only accessory you will need to carry this summer because it pairs so perfectly with anything (now how often can you say that and be 100% truthful in saying so?)

Mettle Fair Trade offers a stunning alternative that also tugs at the heart strings because it’s comprised of recycled bombshell brass and clear lucite.  Nothing is more chic that being green while flexin’ your fashion swag.

Splurge vs. Save: Printed Cut-out Heels!

Showing a little skin is one of the most universal trends for summer.  Nicholas Kirkwood X Peter Pilotto high-heeled sandals only teases with showing small hints of skin but then Kirkwood just had to up the anty with prints and patent leather.  Zara offers up their version of this mixed media cut-out shoe.

Splurge vs. Save: Mono Stripe Denim!

When it comes to trend denim it’s always such a conundrum whether they are worth the splurge or if they should be treated as the short lived fashion of the moment.  Printed denim, specifically mono stripe denim is one of the most notable fashion forward trends of the spring/summer season.

Splurge vs. Save: Statement Earrings!

Statement earrings are one of the key jewelry trends for summer.  Couple this trend with the hottest color of the year, emerald green and you have THE statement earrings.  Elizabeth Cole offers a stunning pair of emerald green that not only hit on the trend but also scream another trending influence; punk.  The use of chains and spiked Swarovski crystals add just the perfect amount of edgy and cool to crank the trendsetter-o-meter off the charts with these pair of earrings.  Following along this same vibe, Baublebar offers a very similar yet more toned down version of this look.  While it might be toned down, it still definitely packs an edgy punch.

Splurge vs. Save: Cut-out Shoes!

Alexander Wang’s Spring 2013 RTW Collection is Wang’s signature collection where he exemplified the choice of function over form and stuck very closely to traditional American sportswear design.  While the apparel collection was definitely the stand out I could not help but oogle over Wang’s Spring 2013 footwear collection and more specifically the Mackenzie boot.  Wang’s deconstruction of the boot with the cut-outs and an amazing chunky heel just screams ‘Edgy, Comfy, Chic’!  While many have drawn inspiration from the deconstruction trend of cut-outs, fast fashion retailer Zara offers a very compelling inspired piece.
