Food for thought, why not wear food for Thanksgiving?

As I’m prepping for this week’s food-strav-aganza the age old question naturally comes to mind, “What do I wear?”  But after much thought I’ve come to the conclusion that the better question is, “What do I wear that allows me to consume obscene amounts of food and still look amazing?”

I think I’ve found quite possibly the best thing to wear this Thursday for Thanksgiving.  I’m going to wear food!  How perfect is it to wear food in celebration of the only day that is dedicated strictly to food.  Where one practices the glorious verbs of “noshing”, “feasting”, and “snacking”.

Check out my Top 5 food-wear options below and tell me which one is your favorite!

Over-the-knee Boots: Rock or Stop?

Over-the-knee boots are trending to be a Fall season staple.  But the question on everyone’s mind is, “How do I style them so I don’t look like I’m Julia Roberts from ‘Pretty Woman’?”

Easy, the trick is to first start with the boot-the tighter the better.  These aren’t going to be boots you style with skinny jeans, but rather with a dress or knee length skirts.  The secret here is that no skin should be seen.

With snow on the horizon and cold temps now a reality I’m up for any style trend that’s functional in providing warmth, oh and gets double points for revamping the over-the-knee boots tainted reputation.

Check out my Top 4 budget friendly picks that will not only give you tons of versatility in pairing and could easily become your go-to footwear choice of the season:

Splurge vs. Save: Who wins the stare down?

So confession time: I’m madly obsessed with pullover sweatshirts for fall!  One in particular that I’m majorly swooning over is Kenzo’s ‘Third Eye’ pullover sweatshirt from their Fall/Winter 2013 RTW collection.  I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of the ‘Third Eye’ or more notably known as the ‘Evil Eye’.  The creative dynamic duo, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, describe this emblazoned motif that littered their collection as “It’s all about protection and warding off evil spirits”.

ASOS has obviously drawn inspiration from Kenzo’s ‘Third Eye’.  So what do you think, Splurge vs Save?

#CSMStyleTips: Shirt dresses

Shirt dresses inspiration boardI know what you’re thinking, shirt dresses, really!?! How do shirt dresses fit into CSM’s style mantra of Edgy, Comfy, Chic?  While yes, there is something prim and proper about a shirt dress because the shape and silhouette exude understated and simple tailoring it still doesn’t mean that this traditional style can’t be updated with a modern twist.

Whether you rock yours buttoned up and preppy or with an undone laissez-faire look, it’s all in the way you style this classic piece.  I’ve selected 3 of my top budget friendly choices that while stay tride and true to the shirt dress shape and silhouette are instantly updated and modern due to the prints and patterns. Bonus? 2 out of the 3 are under $50!

Splurge vs. Save: Brown Sack Chic!

Who can we attribute the idea of brown sack chic to?  We all have Raf Simons to thank with his introduction of the leather lunch bag in Jil Sander’s Fall 2012 Menswear collection.  Although Raf’s inspiration for this collection has been lost in translation due to the popularity of this unique and creative handbag accessory.  Simons Fall 2012 Menswear collection was inspired by the idea of masculinity that is troubled for whatever reason.  Focusing on the cross-generational thing: the man who is a father, the man who stays a boys.

I digress, while Raf Simons’ inspiration is lost the one-of-a-kind silhouette lent inspiration to many including Marie Turnor’s Picnic Leather Clutch and for ASOS’s New Look Paper Bag Clutch.

Splurge vs. Save: Sequined Lips Anyone?

One of the biggest trends that were fashion week goers were wearing as their staples all through out fashion month was the graphic pullover.  Everything from faux fashion logos to kitschy prints.  One designer in particular is renowned for his humorously innovative and often surreal use of print, embroidery and graphic embellishment.  Markus Lupfer, has developed a huge cult following because of his witty humor and his ability to convey this all through the use of sequins.

Forever21 has obviously drawn inspiration from Markus Lupfer’s Sequin Lips.  So what do you think, Splurge vs Save?
